2017 Opportunity Quilt
Desert Lily Quilters is actively involved with the Yuma community. Every year we choose a local charity that will receive the proceeds from our annual quilt show and annual opportunity quilt tickets. Last year we were able to raise $10,000 for Bridget’s Gift. This year we choose two charities – Jessie’s Closet and the Yuma Food Bank. They will receive the proceeds from the 2017 opportunity quilt and the 2017 DLQ Quilt Show. Jessie’s Closet provides clothes and other articles to children whom have been put into foster care and the Yuma Food Bank provides food for people in need.
Additionally, we are involved with and donate to the following:
Fidget Quilts: Fidget quilts are used for Alzheimer and dementia patients, and even little kids who need something to do with their hands. It’s all about texture. They often feature zippers, ties, ribbon, strings, buttons, snaps, and closures. Anything that can keep the fingers busy and can be washed will work.
Scholarships: Each year the Desert Lily Quilters award scholarships to local students for higher education. To qualify, high school seniors and college students, who are U.S. Students, must submit applications by the deadline. For further information, contact the Scholarship Coordinator.
